Heather's Helpful Hints

  • Optional Ingredients: The original McDonald's recipe has natural smoke flavor,  extractives of turmeric, and "spices" in the list of ingredients. This copycat recipe includes turmeric, chili powder, and liquid smoke as optional ingredients. Based on personal taste, feel free to include or omit these.
  • Cheese Powder: This recipe calls for cheese powder. This adds both color and taste to the recipe. You can usually find this in the spice or popcorn aisle of your grocery store.
  • Steak Sauce: I use A1 steak sauce in the recipe, but feel free to use any brand. You can also substitute Worcestershire sauce for a similar flavor profile.
  • Mustard: Some people reported that they used honey mustard in this recipe for a subtly sweet flavor.
  • Mayonnaise: You can use ½ to ⅔ cups of mayonnaise in this recipe. Less mayo gives you a stronger flavored sauce.
