Kermit's Key Lime Pie Recipe

This award-winning Kermit's key lime pie recipe is sweet, tangy, and perfect for summer! Condensed milk adds a sweet and rich flavor that is complemented by the key lime juice. This pie always has people coming back for more and asking for my recipe!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 12 minutes
Total Time: 22 minutes
Servings: 8 slices

Ingredients

Pie Crust Ingredients

  • cups graham cracker crumbs
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter

Filling Ingredients

  • 3 cups sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¾ cup key lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated lime zest

Instructions

  • Place a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees.
  • In a mixing bowl, blend together graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter until thoroughly combined. Firmly press the mixture into the bottom and up the sides of an 8- or 9-inch pie plate, creating a solid and deliciously spiced crust.
  • Pre-bake the crust for 10 minutes, and then remove it to a wire cooling rack while you prepare the filling.
  • In a medium bowl, combine condensed milk, sour cream, lime juice, and lime rind. Mix well and pour into graham cracker crust.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until set and tiny pinhole bubbles burst on the surface of pie. Be careful not to brown your pie. Remove from oven and chill pie thoroughly before serving. Garnish with lime slices and whipped cream if desired.

Heather's Helpful Hints

  • The official recipe on the back of Kermit's key lime juice is as follows: "2 14-ounce cans of sweetened condensed milk, six egg yolks, and ½ cup of Kermit's key lime juice. Blend milk and eggs at a low speed until smooth. Add key lime juice and finish blending. Pour into crust, and cook at 325 degrees for 15 minutes. "
  • My copycat recipe makes a slightly lighter pie (replacing egg yolks with sour cream). This results in a pie with a more delicate and lighter flavor, which was preferred by our taste testers.
  • When it comes to graham cracker crumbs, you have two options. You can easily find them pre-packaged at the store or take matters into your own hands by crushing whole graham crackers in a zip-top bag to create your own homemade crumbs.
  • Homemade whipped cream is far superior to store-bought. I highly recommend making some yourself.
