Deb mentions on her blog that there are sometimes pockets of uncooked batter surrounding the apples on top. I found this to be the case with my cake, and gave it 15 additional minutes of cook time. I also heeded her advice and put aluminum foil on the top near the end of baking because I found my apples were browning too fast on the top.
