Fudge is a decadent and sweet dessert that is usually made for the holidays. When it comes to storing, can you freeze fudge to make it last longer so you can eat it after the holidays? Storing fudge in the refrigerator or freezer is the perfect way to keep it fresh well into the new year.

    What is fudge?

Fudge is a classic candy made with a base of sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. These ingredients are cooked at a high temperature and include cocoa powder added to make chocolate fudge.

It doesn’t need to be chocolate flavored in order to be called fudge, however. There are many other flavor combinations you can add to make flavored fudge.

Making fudge is easy and can be saved to eat long after the day you make it. There are some great options for saving it for later.

    Can you freeze fudge?

Yes! Freezing fudge is an excellent way to keep fudge fresh for months after you make it. While making fudge is a fun holiday activity, it’s not something you make very often.

Wrapping it up and sticking it in the freezer means you’ll be able to enjoy a tasty fudge square whenever you’re in the mood. You can also pull it out when you want to serve dessert for a special occasion but don’t have time to make it.

    How to store fudge?

There are three ways to store fudge, depending on how long you want to keep it fresh.

On the counter: Wrap the fudge in plastic wrap and keep it on the counter for up to a week.

Refrigerator: Cover the fudge in plastic wrap or parchment paper and put it in an air-tight container in the fridge for a few weeks.

Freezer: It’s best to double wrap fudge when you’re going to freeze it. This will help prevent freezer burn and make the shelf life last even longer.

Does fudge need to be refrigerated?

You don’t need to store fudge in the fridge to keep it fresh. You can keep it on the counter, refrigerator, or the freezer.

If you want to keep it in the fridge, it will stay fresh for 3-4 weeks. After that, you may notice that it dries out and begins to get crumbly.

Put it on the counter for 30 minutes to bring it to room temperature before eating for the best texture.

How long can you freeze fudge?

Storing fudge in the freezer is perfect for keeping it fresh for months after you make it.

You can keep it in squares or freeze the whole block for 3-6 months.

This will ensure you have plenty of fudge for all occasions well into the spring and summer months. You only need to make a new batch twice per year!

    How to properly freeze fudge?

Keep fudge fresh even longer when you store it correctly. There are some best practices when freezing fudge, so it doesn’t get freezer burned or dried out.

    1. Start by cutting the fudge into individual squares for easy removal.
    2. Wrap it in two layers. This can include plastic wrap, aluminum foil, wax paper, or parchment paper.
    3. Also, be sure to put a layer of wax paper or parchment paper between layers when stacking fudge to prevent them from sticking to each other.
    4. After it’s double-wrapped, keep it in a freezer bag or plastic airtight container.

    How to thaw fudge

After pulling fudge from the freezer, put it in the refrigerator and allow it to thaw overnight.

You can also leave it on the counter to let it thaw faster if you want to use it immediately.

How long does fudge last at room temperature?

If you want to keep your fudge on the counter, it can stay at room temperature for 4-7 days.

After that, you’ll want to check for mold growth and throw it out as soon as you see any.

Can you freeze fudge made with other ingredients?

Fudge is traditionally made with chocolate, but you can make it with whatever ingredients you’d like. Here are some options you may want to try:

    • Marshmallow creme
    • Peanut butter
    • Nuts
    • Sprinkles
    • M&M’s

    Conclusion

Fudge is a rich and creamy candy usually made during the holidays. You can keep it on the counter, refrigerator, or the freezer. Keep it in the fridge or freezer for a few weeks up to a few months. You only need to make fudge twice a year to eat it all year long.
